October 10, 2017
Welcome to the October 10th. Yorkson Howl.
On September 29, YCMS participated in Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day at residential school and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year. We are proud and fortunate to have as our new Aboriginal Support Worker, Luke Dandurand, who is a member of Kwantlen Nation. Not only is Luke working with our students in the Aboriginal Program, he is bringing awareness and opportunity to support our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. It was great to see so many people wearing an Orange Shirt on Friday to honour, and remember what happened in the past, but also to recognize the path that Aboriginal people are on to regaining their voice, culture and teachings. A special thank you to our honoured guest who attended:
Mrs. Rose-Mary Wallace…School District TrusteeMr. Mal Gill…Assistant Superintendent of Schools
Mrs. Suzanne Perreault…President of the Langley District Parent Advisory Council
Mr. John Aldag…Member of Parliament for Cloverdale / Langley

Mrs. Donna Robins…District Teacher of Aboriginal Education
From Kwantlen First Nation:
Micheal Kelly Gabriel
Josette Dandurand…residential school surivior and Kwantle First Nation Member &

Welcome to Yorkson Creek Middle School for the 2017/2018 school year!
Yorkson Creek Parent Advisory Council Initiative
– $10 per student (family max $25) requested by October 6th –
The YCMS Parent Advisory Council funds various activities and resources for our children that otherwise may not be possible.
A sampling of activities supported by PAC include:
Equipment for sports teams
Instruments for band
Support for drama and the Arts
Annual Pancake Breakfast
… and much, much more.
To continue this support, we ask that parents consider contributing a PAC Initiative of $10 per child, to a maximum of $25 per family. 100% of this money directly benefits our students.
Other OPTIONAL fundraising may be done throughout the year; however, this PAC initiative is what creates our ability to provide a great deal of support and much needed items to our school.
Without it, many of the above PAC supported items will have to be eliminated.
In order to establish the plan and budget for the year, we request that all money be submitted before October 6, 2017.
For 3 children or more, please just submit $25.
Please submit your payment via https://sd35.schoolcashonline.com or cash or cheque payable to YCMS PAC.
You can find out more information about the PAC and what we do by liking our Facebook page (Yorkson Creek Middle School PAC), attending a monthly PAC meeting, or emailing: email@example.com
