Parking Lot Safety at YCMS

Yorkson Creek Middle School has one of the smallest catchment areas in the Langley School District.  As such, the majority of our students are well within reasonable walking distance to our school.  Fraser Health has identified a number of benefits for children who regularly walk to and from school.  We have a number of wide sidewalks and pathways that connect our school to the surrounding neighborhoods and encourage all of our students to use them to get to and from school.

If you must drive your child to Yorkson, please note that there is a lot of congestion in the area, and that patience is required to safely navigate the neighborhood.  Once on our school grounds, please note that our number one priority is student safety.  With that in mind, please note the following:

  • Pick-up and drop-off should only take place in the pick-up/drop-off lane
  • There is no stopping to pick-up or drop-off in the through lane
    • Children cutting past cars pulling in and out of the pick-up/drop-off lane is extremely dangerous
      • Even if your child is right there and ready
  • Staff should be treated with respect
    • They are there to keep all children safe
      • If you have a concern with a staff member, please contact administration
  • Cones should not be driven over or moved
    • You may not understand why they have been placed where they are, but rest assured, in a school with 700 students, there are a variety of factors for us to consider
  • Drive slowly on school property
    • We want all of our students to make it home safely
  • Pull ahead as far forward as you can in the drop-off lane
    • The cars in line behind you are waiting to pick up their children too
